Load shedding back Then versus Now

• The Public Relations Industry has always been challenged by how the news would get out in each set of new rolling blackouts, because of anticipating how the audience or community at large will receive the news.

• The load shedding has always been an issue since 2007 energy crisis at a critical stage      and is mostly a never-ending crisis the country has had to deal with and still is. Public relations are further challenged by how the news is supposed to look and reach people out there.

• The difference of a gap between how the load shedding back years and now is that people never used to notice that much whenever the power would go off but nowadays society at large is so used to the idea of the power switching off now and then, that whenever the power is on the whole day it feels odd that something is amiss.

• Social media use has been active throughout its platforms, trending the topic and making it reach many people to voice out their opinions of how they feel.

The affordable tips on how to survive and deal with this load shedding.

• The Public relations had gained an opportunity by initiating PR campaigns raising awareness by giving out advice to the community on how to manage with the least affordable tips on managing this load shedding by the strategic use of social media.

• Social media makes the tips available to everyone to read and  gain access to. Using gas stoves is the simplest solution if not the ways like using coal/firewood stoves. Fill in the big transparent resealable pouch bags with water to use in a refrigerator to keep the meat and other edibles cold   more tips. The Public relations industry gets affected in being consistent in posting the content due to load shedding making the network weak resulting in the loss of failing to reach the desired target audience. 


How the ongoing load shedding has changed our standard of living.

• Public relations is challenged in the way of managing the reputation for the damage of the load shedding on the decreased farm income and food security , including the whole  livelihood of the farmers.

• The use of social media and public relations has gotten the opportunity to publish how load shedding is impacting the economy leading to high food prices and high employment rates. The strategic use of social media has been involved in making it known to people that load shedding is impacting the farmers greatly in the process of  provision in  the food sector.

  3. Do you think government should stop Loadshedding all together and risk the generation units going off or they should continue Loadshedding while keeping it to maximum stage 2 but not higher than that

Well, I honestly think the load shedding should just continue while keeping it to that "maximum stage 2 " not higher than that of course because even if our government were to stop the load shedding this could result to putting more severe strain to the power grid , leading to more rolling blackouts than usual.

    1. Thank you. Exactly that , I feel that a lot is being overlooked when it comes to Farming, because not so long ago the African Farmers Association of South Africa (Afasa) had spoken about 'Load shedding contributing negatively to food security, and leading to the loss of farm income'.

  8. Loadshedding should be cancelled permanently because it is causing more harm and damage to our daily living and the economy. So many people who are on life support machines are dying everyday. It also deprives us one of the basic human right.
